Glen Torrance Hanriot Hd1
« on: February 23, 2009, 11:08:56 AM »
I thought I would share some more photos of my winter project.  This is an amazing build.  Here is the scheme I am going with.  The Hanriot was originaly buit built by the French but they scraped it in favor of the Spads. The Italian and Belgiums ending up flying it, and i am going with the Italian version that the Machi Plant started to build.

I have started covering and will be using a new product for the rib stithcing  http://home.cablerocket.com/~scaleribstitch/index.htm  it is basicly a double sided tape with the threads placed on one side. I just cut the strips to length and then cover.  I am using Nelson Fabric to cover, I have had great success with it in the past.

I am also putting a dummy Radial in the cowl.  I got a kit from Mick Reeves in England an it is a work of art the engine was the Le Rhone.  unfortunatly it is not a perfict fit and the engine gets in the way, so I had to remove the top 2 fins.  But she  still looks great, and even better withthe prop on.

Aluminum.... The Plane has aluminum from the cowl to the rear of the seat.  It had aluminum for the top hood and behind the seat but not for the side fairings so I took the thin plywood that it came with and used contact cement to put alum in place.  I didn't wnat to paint the side  and other builds that I had researched did simular things.   I think it looks preety good there are two hatches one for fuel and the other for the switches.  On a completely different subject.  I am a terrible speller  ??? and I hate that this doesn't have automatic spell checker built in.  I am hopeless with out it, so please fogive and try not to laugh at me and my posts too much. ;D

Looks really good Joel - can't wait to see it up close.
I just finished the Sig 1/4 scale Piper Cub I bought from dad.
I put my Saito 120 4 stroke in it, did some repairs and recovering.
It is ready to test fly on the next nice day off I have.  Still need to order a new cowl after I confirm the Saito will fly it well.

I know what you mean about spellcheck - not the best speller myself.
I hadn't noticed that spellcheck was not in the forum.
One benefit of this new forum, is there are mods and updates out regularly.
We are currently using version 1.7 and 1.8 has just been released, will probably upgrade the forum this weekend.
(don't worry - no lost data like the last major changeover)
An all new version 2.0 is in beta test now, I may install it as a test forum this weekend as well.
Either way, I will look for a way to add spellcheck.

FYI - Sometimes I spellcheck in MS Word and then cut and paste it into the post.

When you can't fly build... well I have got back to work on the Hanriot and getting much closer to the end. I have finished the rib stiching and even did the stich on the underside of the fuse.  I am really happy with the way it has turned out.  The paints i used i mixed myself from Klasscoat (it's an epoxy paint that i sprayed on)  the stencils are from "Get Stencils".  Next step will be to put all the struts and wiring in place.

It is Finished.  What a project!  I am very proud of this one.  I ran the engine last night and started on the first flip.  It is an evolution 26 gas.  I am using the Coleman Camping  white gas, it has no smell... a real bonus for a gas engine.  I hope to get it up this weekend if the Weather holds. I can't say enough about Glen Torrence Kits... he is the true craftsman that made this plane look so good. I will be a little nervouse for its first flight so I will again be in the hands of our expert pilot for all my madian flights... Alan.  The other thing that will be a treat for all is the smoke system.... boy does it smoke I think you all will enjoy the sight of that.  Well here are the final photos.  The next photos will be of it in the air.

WOW - Looks really good Joel.   Let us know which day you are gonna fly it - Saturday is the Swap Meet and Sunday is Fathers Day, so I am not sure which I will go flying yet - seeing your new baby fly might be the deciding factor for me.

I will post this on the schedule as well but I think sunday will be the best day for me as well. So I will see when Alan is available ... I will be too nervous to try this on my own.
